While generic Bluetooth Scanners are supported, we recommend using a supported Zebra Scanner instead.

The ScaryGood Box Office app works with physical Bluetooth Scanners that meet the following requirements:

The scanner must use Bluetooth.
It must support HID Keyboard Mode on iOS.
It must have a feature that allows you to double click the scanner to open the native iOS keyboard.
It must support 2D Barcodes (QR Codes).

What is HID Keyboard mode?

HID Keyboard mode turns your scanner into a "keyboard" that types whatever it scans.

The ScaryGood Box Office application automatically listens for all keyboard events while the app is open and will capture anything that looks like a ScaryGood QR Code.

Setting up your Scanner

Your scanner should come with a manual that has various barcodes to scan and modify settings. You'll need to ensure to set the following:

Ensure your scanner is in HID Keyboard mode for iOS.
Ensure your scanner is set to bluetooth pairing.
Enable the "double click to show iOS keyboard" feature of your scanner.
- Ensure your scanner supports this feature before buying!
If possible, increase the HID Keyboard typing speed of your scanner.
Go to your phones Bluetooth settings and pair the scanner with your phone.
Read the section below about iOS keyboards.

After you've completed the steps above, your scanner will automatically begin working with the Box Office app.

Using your Scanner

Once you've completed setup above, you can scan ticket codes with it no matter where you are in the application, there is no need to visit the Scan tab unless you want to see your Scan History.

Where did my iOS keyboard go?

When a scanner is connected to your device using HID Keyboard mode, your device will hide the native iOS keyboard. This makes it difficult to search for orders and have customers fill out waivers.

Make sure that your scanner has the "double click to show iOS keyboard" feature enabled. Whenever you need the iOS keyboard, you'll have to double click the scanner in order to pull up the on screen keyboard. Once you scan another barcode, the on screen keyboard will disappear again until you double click it.

In order to eliminate customers accidentally closing the keyboard when filling out a waiver, we recommend enabling the ScaryGood iOS Keyboard (instructions below).

Using the ScaryGood iOS Keyboard

The ScaryGood Box Office app comes with a native iOS Keyboard that removes the "collapse keyboard" button. This makes sure that if someone is doing something like signing a waiver on your device that they don't accidentally close the native keyboard (which would require you to double click to open the native keyboard again).

The ScaryGood Box Office keyboard also adds a top bar to the keyboard with common email address domains.

After installing the Box Office app, do the following to enable the keyboard:

Open your iOS Settings app
Click General
Click Keyboard
Click Keyboards (at the top)
Click "Add New Keyboard"
Choose "ScaryGood Box Office" under Third-Party Keyboards
Optionally: Click Edit and remove the English and Emoji keyboards
